Garage Door Repair in Oak Park
Many of the calls we get from Oak Park are repairs — and most of them are urgent. Our technicians arrive with stocked trucks so the fix usually happens in a single visit.
Broken Spring Replacement
The most common failure, especially after hard cold snaps. We replace torsion and extension springs on doors of every age.
Off-track & Roller Repair
Doors that have jumped the track — a frequent issue on older garages with worn hardware.
Opener Repair
Grinding, clicking, or dead openers, including older chain-drive units common in Oak Park garages.
Panel & Section Replacement
For damaged doors that don’t need full replacement — we match sections rather than selling you a new door.
Tune-ups & Maintenance
An annual tune-up catches worn springs and cables before they fail in January.
We repair every make & model, including: North Central Door Company • Clopay • Hormann • Raynor • C.H.I. • LiftMaster • Chamberlain • Genie • and more

Old Garages, Alley Access, Odd Sizes — We Know Oak Park
A big share of Oak Park’s garages weren’t built for modern doors. Much of the village’s housing stock — the Victorians, Foursquares, Prairie-style homes, and 1920s bungalows — comes with detached garages set off the alley, and many of those garages are nearly as old as the houses. That means:
Non-standard openings
Tight alley access
Our crews work out of alleys all over Oak Park, Berwyn, and the West Side — we know how to stage a job when there’s no driveway.
Aging structures
Older garage framing sometimes needs reinforcement before a new door or opener goes in. We’ll tell you honestly what the structure can support.
Wind-rated Garage Doors
Oak Park building code legally requires wind-rated garage doors, so that is what we quote. Learn more about insurance damage coverage and wind-rated garage doors.
If another company told you your garage “can’t take a new door,” call us before you give up on it. (708) 652-9405 »

New doors for historic homes
New Garage Door Installation in Oak Park
Oak Park takes its architecture seriously — and so do we. A stamped-steel builder door looks wrong on a Queen Anne. Forest installs steel, wood, and carriage-house style doors, and we build custom garage doors designed to match historic homes, from Prairie-influenced designs to traditional carriage styles for alley garages. Visit our Cicero showroom to see full-size doors in person before you decide — something no online retailer can offer.
If your home sits in one of Oak Park’s historic districts, exterior changes visible from the street can involve additional review. We’ve worked on plenty of historic-district homes and can help you choose a door that fits both your house and the village’s expectations.

Forest Door Co. Sent a repair man out the same day we called. He determined that we would need new doors, took the measurements, and had someone call us with a price the first thing the next morning. The new doors, tracks, etc. were installed the very same day, at a reasonable price, and the old crappy doors were taken away. When one of our remotes failed to work, they came right over and fixed the problem in the device for no charge! Nice guys, great work!

Questions we hear from Oak Park
Oak Park Garage Door FAQ
In most cases, yes. The Village of Oak Park generally requires a building permit for replacing exterior doors and for work on garage structures, filed through the village's online permit portal. A few things worth knowing: overhead garage doors must carry the wind-resistance rating required by local residential code, any structural framing changes trigger additional permit review, and hardwired wiring for a new opener has to meet current electrical code. If your home sits in one of Oak Park's historic districts, a door visible from the street may also need architectural or historic design review before the swap.
It sounds like a lot — but we work in Oak Park regularly and will tell you exactly what your project requires before any work begins.
Our shop is in Cicero, minutes from Oak Park, and we can often get a truck to you the same day — especially for stuck-open doors and broken springs. Call (708) 652-9405 as early as you can and we'll do our best to fit you in.
Absolutely — it's our busiest season. Steel springs become brittle in extreme cold, and metal parts contract, which is why so many springs snap during January cold snaps. An autumn tune-up is the cheapest insurance against a mid-winter failure.
