Repair or Replace? The Honest Answer

If your opener is under roughly 12–15 years old and the problem is a gear, sensor, remote, or adjustment, opener repair is almost always the right answer. We stock common LiftMaster and Genie parts on our trucks and in our warehouse, and we’ve serviced models going back decades.

Replacement earns its keep in three situations: the logic board has failed on an aging unit (the part often approaches a new opener’s cost), the opener predates 1993 and lacks the photo-eye safety reversal system that’s protected kids and pets ever since, or you want capabilities an old unit can’t offer — smartphone control, battery backup that works through a power outage, or a belt drive quiet enough for a bedroom above the garage. If it's a LiftMaster, yes — Forest is an authorized warranty station so qualifying repairs are handled under the manufacturer's warranty rather than out of your pocket.
Almost always travel-limit or force settings that need adjustment, or safety sensors seeing a reflection. It's a fast fix — and sometimes one we can walk you through by phone.
Not necessarily — a stripped drive gear or disconnected trolley is repairable for far less. But first make sure a spring hasn't broken: pull the red release cord and lift the door a foot. If it's extremely heavy, the spring is the problem, and the opener was just overpowered.
Usually not, and we'll tell you why honestly: units that old often lack modern safety reversal, replacement logic boards cost nearly as much as a new opener, and today's belt-drive models are dramatically quieter with smartphone control and battery backup. We'll quote both options.
Often yes — many openers from the last 10–15 years can add smart control with an accessory bridge. If yours can't, we'll say so and show you what an upgrade costs.
Look above the door: a spring wound around a horizontal shaft is a torsion spring. Springs stretched alongside the horizontal tracks are extension springs. We repair and replace both, and can convert older extension systems to safer torsion setups.
